Sweet Southern Comfort

Thursday, November 12, 2009

With the worst weeks of quarter 5 behind us (only 4 weeks to go!), my friends and I have been spending less time cooped up studying and more time enjoying the warm fall weather outdoors.

We kicked off the weekend directly after our surgery class Friday night downtown at "First Friday" which is an event for local artists to showcase their work while enjoying wine and hors d'oeuvres at quaint stores around the downtown area. Monika, me, Erinn enjoying margaritas downtown!

Saturday morning I headed out to play a round of golf with my friend Michelle and then went down near the UT campus to watch all of the football games later that night. (Monika and I continue to cheer on FSU, despite their not-so-great year.)

Sunday, the fun continued as we ventured down to the East TN Chili Cook Off. OH MY CHILI! There were 31 vendors and after about 8 samples, we felt like blimps.....and then we found the fried oreos..... In case the chili wasn't enough "southern comfort", why not fry up some oreos and twinkies for a fine artery-clogging diabetic coma??

From here, Torrey and I rushed home to decompress and get "fancified" for the big black-tie March of Dimes Chef's Auction. Courtesy of Mr. Rick and Stephanie, we were off to the event (free of charge for us poor grad students) to enjoy more food, this time much more delicious and fancy of course. We enjoyed the night of entertainment, food, and auctioning and plan to make this event an annual affair! Being a charity close to my heart, we will definitely be participating in more events to come!
